Thraci Heritage
The Thracian tribes inhabited the territory of Bulgaria 4th – 5th century BC. They are considered to be one of the first civilizations in Europe. In our days, there are many remains of their life all over Bulgaria. This tour will present you in 5 days the most interesting of them.
Itinerary
Day-1
Arrival at Sofia airport. Transfer to the city of Kardzhali. Overnight.
Day-2
Breakfast. Full day tour of Perperikon, Mezek, Alexandrovo. Overnight in Stara Zagora.
Perperikon – Religious activity at the top of the cliff began in the 5th century BC. It is associated with the beliefs of the Copper Age people, who started the cult of the sun god. Here they established the first sanctuary and started leaving food containers for the gods.
Mezek (where the famous wine Mezek is made) – The Thracian Beehive Tomb is dated 3rd – 4th century BC
Alexandrovo tombs – some of the oldest tombs. This Thracian tomb are some of the most important archeological discoveries, ever made in Bulgaria.
They were built during the second half of the 4th century BC as a final resting place for a wealthy Thracian ruler, whose name is not known.
Day-3
Breakfast. Transfer to Kazanlak – the town of the famous Bulgarian Rose. Full day tour of Kazanlak Tomb, Valley of Thracian Kings – known for its tombs and golden treasures, Starosel, Strelcha. Overnight in Plovdiv.
The Kazanlak Tomb, UNESCO world heritage site, based on its architectural outlook, it belongs to the dome tombs, typical for the Thracian funeral architecture from the end of the 5th and the beginning of the 3rd century BC.
The Valley of the Kings is full of remains. There you will see different tomb of different kings, that ruled the Thracian territories during the ages
The Thracian Temple Complex at Starosel covers six underhill temples, four of which unique, as well as few royal burials. The entire hill is surrounded by a wall, made of processed granite blocks. Its length is 241 meters and the height reaches 3.5 meters. The wall is called krepis and outlines a circle, which, according to the Thracian religious believes, symbolizes the Sun. The entrance of the temple has a parade staircase
and two pedestals, on which statues of lions were sitting.
Day-4
Breakfast. Half day tour of Plovdiv, best known for its Old town and the ancient theater. Tour of Sofia – the capital of Bulgaria. Overnight in Sofia.
Plovidv is considered to be one of the oldest cities in Europe. Here you will see remainsof a Thracian fortress (5th century BC) and well preserved remains from the Roman times to our days.
The Old Town is a marvelous site, with its picturesque churches, the mosque and many houses with the architecture, the specific atmosphere and the spirit of Bulgarian Revival period.
Your guide will show you the fabulous remains from the Ancient Roman Empire – the Roman Stadium, the Roman Forum, the Amphitheater.
Sofia – panoramic tour with transport and on foot, during which you will see the main sights – Alexander Nevski Cathedral, the Parliament, Banya Bashi Mosque, The Synagogue, the National Theater, the Kings’ Palace.
Day-5
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
