UNESCO express – Rila Monastery and Boyana church
Tour highlights:
The tour starts from the Alexandar Nevsky Cathedral. Next is a visit to Boyana church, which is a UNESCO heritage listed site. The Boyana Church, in the eponymous Sofia suburb, at the foot of mount Vitosha, is one of the few complete and perfectly preserved medieval monuments, testifying to the significant contribution of Bulgarian monumental painting to European culture in the Middle Ages. The excursion continues with a road trip to the Rila Monastery – the largest in Bulgaria, second largest in the Balkans and UNESCO world heritage listed site. It is located at an altitude of 1147 meters, in the middle of the fragrant, dense pine forests of Rila Mountain.
